As for locking your door, you would have to rig up somehting completely different. Relays are only good for turning devices on and off, not controling them that specifically. You would need to rig up a servo to an existing lock fot that to work.
There are plenty of 'security' locks that are activated by an electronic signal. A guy down the hall in the dorms when I was in college rigged one up to his door and used a car remote (from an alarm) to lock/unlock his door.
It shouldn't be too hard to interface it with X10 and have it control just about anything in your house! That would be fun, have the lights blink in the whole house when ever you get email :'D

or when you lose your voice when screaming for parents because ur a fat azz lazy little kid, you could let the lights flash, but i dont think anyone here is like that
