KS0066 vs HD44780

Post by DamoM »

When looking through the MOP LCD displays, i noticed that they are meant to be driven by hd44780 controllers. At the bottom of the page though, in the extended features sections (of things like MOP-AL202C-BFTG-25E-3IN) it says that it is driven by S6A0069, which is actually the KS0066 driver. The difference between the KS0066 and the hd44780 is the power and ground connections on pin and 2. Whilst not major, i read somewhere that if LCDs are powered in reverse, they will be irreparably damaged. I guess my question is then, do I trust the datasheets pin layout? or do i use the ks0066 layout?

The S6A0069 and hd44780 are actually 100% compatible on all 80 pins, the pins exposed to the end user (usually 14-20 pins on the side or bottom of the board) can differ from board to board, depending on features such as backlight and onboard negative voltage generator and touchpads. If in any doubt about the pinout of your lcd refer to the manual/datasheet specific to your lcd model it should list the function of each of the pins exposed.
