Medium/large digits problem

Post by EdwardMillen »

Hi

I am trying to get large digits (2 lines high) to work on an MX211 display. I have tried the codes for initialising and displaying both medium and large digits, but neither displays anything or changes the custom characters. Everything else works fine from my program, including displaying bar graphs. I am communicating with the display directly via the COM port.

Does this display just not include the medium/large digits, or am I missing something else?

And if it doesn't, can I please have the definitions of what the characters should be so I can set them myself?

Thanks

Hello Edward,

Thank you for posting on the forum.

Can you please tell me the PCB rev and the firmware version of your MX211. I am afraid that maybe it is a bit old and that we have not yet implemented medium numbers (2 row height) on it.. Large numbers are only implemented in displays with 4 or more rows.

In any case, please check the command you send to the module:

254 / 109 - initiliaze medium numbers
254 / 111 / <row> / <column> / <digit>
eg: 254 / 111 / 1 / 1 / 5 - this will display a '5' medium digit (2 row height by 1 col width) in col 1

note: keep parameter <row> to 1 to see the full digit. If parameter <row>
is 0, only the bottom part of the digit is displayed, if parameter <row> is 2, only the top part of the digit will be displayed.

Please let me know how it turns out.

Hi, Im working with Ed with this project,

All the information I can find is :

Firmware version 3.2
Serial Number 65535
Type 54
Version 32

If this panel dosnt support the medium text, is there anyway to upgrade the firmware in it?

If not, can you provide the 8byte codes for each number so they can be used as custom charaters in our program ?

Or do you know of any other way to get around this problem?

Thanks alot,

David

Hi David,

Unfortunately, I can not find a firmware revision of 3.2, could you possibly mean 2.2?

If you do have firware version 2.2, medium numbers should work. Have you tried the commands I suggested?

If there is a need to upgrade your units, it will need to be sent back here. The work around to this, yes, is the giving you all the character byte definition, and the way to actaully make the digit. I can give you that if you find that you need it.

Hi,

I actually got that information from an SDK demo program I found on this forum, So im not sure how accurate that information is. We tried everything possible to get the charaters to display to no avail, So I think if you could provide byte codes and information as you suggested, this would be great!

P.S, How do I found out the proper firmware revision ? I looked on the back of the PCB, but nothing in written on it.

Regards, and thanks for the quick reply !

Hi David,

To get the firmware revision, please send the command:

254 / 54

the module will reply a 1 byte value.

I will prepare the character definitions for you and email you via the email in your technical support question.

Hi David,

I have replied to you via email. Have you tried the custom characters out?

Please let me know if it works for you.

Hello SadE,

PK202-25 PCB 3.0 does have medium numbers.

Have you tried the suggested commands:

254 / 109 - initiliaze medium numbers
254 / 111 / <row> / <column> / <digit>

eg: 254 / 111 / 1 / 1 / 5 - this will display a '5' medium digit (2 row height by 1 col width) in col 1.

I tried exactly what you suggested ...
In fact some chars are printed at the good place but not the good ones:
it seems the startup screen chars are loaded (bank 0) .
I can display vertical and horizontal bars without trouble , so I have the feeling there's no numbers in the medium numbers bank :-?

Re: Medium/large digits problem

Post by alejandrocordova »

I bought a

LCD2041
FirmWare v8.7
Type 5
Version 87
Serial Number 0

and in the manual i saw some numbers that are not the medium neither the large ones. (because they are two chars(columns) width and two chars (rows) height)

How can i get them?

the display works fine, when using large numbers i get the full 4 rows height 3 cols width and when using the medium numbers i get the 2 rows height and 1 column width.

but i need the numbers to be 2 cols width and 2 rows height.

in the manual is showed with a red display with a message of a Steering satellite 245.6.

any help would be very much appreciated

Thak you very much

Sincerely
Alejandro C

Sorry for the delay in the reply. We're just getting back to full technical support strength after the hollidays.

The large digits have always been 4x3, and the medium digitas have always been 2x1. I am unsure where you have seen this display with a "Steering Satellite" message. If you can point me to that, I might be able to describe how to achieve the same effect.

Medium digits definition (#35970)

Post by alejandrocordova »

I saw these digits on your manual LCD2041_rev_20.pdf on page 1 (or page 5 on the pdf). and on the ads on your web page.

(there is a grid of 4 display examples, the one on the lower right corner is a demo of a red display that shows the numbers on format 2x2).

Thank you very much

Sincerely
Alejandro Cordova
