MX4 support, please: Using with a generic embedded sys

Post by jsveiga »

Hello,

We are looking for a user interface for a antenna positioning controller, and I am looking at the MX401, but could not find a downloadable manual or datasheet for this model on the site.

Could someone please help me with this questions?:

1 - Can I use the MX401 with RS232 only? The controller I have in mind has no USB. The information on the site says it has both RS232 and USB, but does not specify if you need both.

2 - Can I use the thermal probe inputs as generic analog inputs? Then can I read the input somehow via RS232?

3 - What are the fan outputs like? On/Off, linear, or PWM?

4 - Does it come with a complete documentation of the serial communication "protocol"?

Thanks a lot,

Hi Joao S Veiga ,

Thank you for posting on the forum.

Here are the answers to your questions.

1. The MX401 doesn't communicate via RS-232, but either USB or TTL communications. If you would like to communicate via RS-232, you can refer to the LK204-25.

2. the temperature probe inputs are specifically for dallas one wire devices, so you won't be able to use them as analog inputs. Any information on programming dallas one wire devices can be found at http://www.lcdforums.com/forums/viewtop ... highlight=

3. The fan outputs utilize PWM, which switch a FET on and off.

4. The unit's documentation will be listed under the LK204-24-USB manual, which can be found at http://www.matrixorbital.ca/manuals/LK_ ... 04-24-USB/

If you have anymore questions or concerns, please feel free to post them.

Best Regards,

Bernie

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Matrix Orbital.

The MX401 series uses the LK204-24-USB-GW display. The displays mounted with-in our MX series are all USB interface, however, we do offer the same display in serial interface. The part number for the serial interface display only would be LK204-25-GW. The PC bay insert, bracket and overlays would then need to be purchased separtely since the MX series (USB) are the only units that come as a kit (bracket/overlay/cables/LCDC included).

Please see below for the link to our manuals:

Serial display (LK204-25):

USB display (LK204-24-USB):

Please feel free to view our manuals and information provided on our support site. If you do require additional technical data you may contact our technical support direct at:

Awesome, thanks!

I've downloaded the documentation for the LK204-25. That's perfect.

The MK2041 is the PC Bay insert used in the MX401, with the 14-button keypad, right? Does it include the connecting cable for the display keypad connector?

Thanks again,

Joao S Veiga

Hello, the MK2041 is the mounting kit only.....that would not be the bracket and overlay.....you will require the B2041A (-BK for Black overlay)- (see below for link):

http://www.matrixorbital.com/product_in ... s-mounting

The cables would need to purchase separetly as well. You can find the cables of choice under accessories.

Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions or concerns.

Bernadine
