Please help, corrupt display (MX224)

Post by Synapse »

No matter what I do, the display shows gibberish characters. I have tried to install the drivers again, updated to the latest version of LCDC, etc. No luck.

This display worked great for almost a year. Now the display is very dim and displays weird characters. When I unplug it from the USB connection and plug it back in, I don't even get the default 'Matrix Orbital' display text, just junk. You see each 'cell' of the display light up for a fraction of a second and then it dims and shows junk.

Any help or ideas about what I can do would be great.

The following shows in my device manager:

Ports (COM & LPT): Matrix Orbital MX2xx USB Driver (COM3)

Universal Serial Bus controllers: Matrix Orbital MX2xx USB Driver

Driver Info
Date: 2/1/2002
Version: 1.0.2101.0

What revision of PCB do you currently have?

There is a number on the backside of your LCD display. It's the side that shows all most of the electronic components. There is a Revision number shown on there. An example is Rev 1.4 . Can you please tell me what the revision number?

Can you try the following instructions?

1)Unpower your display
2)Place a jumper on pin 6 and 7
3)Power up your display again
4)The Baud will be set at a default 19200

Refer to the link, which is the manual, below. The instructions are on page 7 of the pdf file.

FYI...I can enter characters and they show on the screen through HyperTerminal.

Ok...I did some tests...and downloaded the Matrix Orbital LCD Tester.

Things seem to be working now...not sure exactly what I did...but I did a few things with the Tester, including changing contrast etc...disconnected with the Tester and turned LCDC back on...now it is working.
