Well, I am not sure I followed all of that. First, the keypad should not stop responding, however, I am told that experiments to reproduce your symptoms have met with some success. My immediate response is "don't do that", but we are looking into it. Are you aware that if you are using pol...

Ya, OK, that makes sense. That -PC unit is the only one with that sort of situation. You basically hooked 12 volts up to a point whose job it is to provide a low resistance path to ground. Boom. The 335s are hard to find, but any generic N-channel MOSFET will work in there with more or (probably) le...

I'll answer that. No. The code is (was) written for a 8051 microcontroller and communicated over I2C. There was however, some Linux code that one of the LCDproc guys wrote back in about 1997. He is not around anymore and I don't believe it made it's way into LCDproc, so that's probably a dead end. N...

Curious. What were you hooking up? I assume that whatever it was, it supplied power in some way, or had a protection diode? Just wondering, since what you said should not always be true. Also, where did the smoke come from? Does it still work? Did you take a picture of the mushroom cloud?

These schematics are given with little explaination at this point. The assumption is that if you can read the schematic, you probably know enough to make sense of it rather than just trying to copy it in ignorance. Please know what you are doing for you will find little mercy if something smokes. I ...

It is really late right now so this will be short. Check your speed. If you send more data than it can handle, it will begin to miss things. That leaves you open to things being mis-interpreted - like maybe it thinks it got a command to upload a new font. Experiment with making delays between bytes ...

You're preaching to the choir, brother. Problem is, I just gotta have my GUI. And it's gotta be MY GUI, and not one that changes month to month and add-on to add-on. I'm just NOT that l33t! :-)

That certainly used to be the case (Telix, Procomm), but I have yet to find a way to do it in HyperTerminal. If anyone can confirm it to work, please let me know. A "low tech" way might be to simply make binary files with a hex editor and send them out on the serial port. You can do this o...

I believe that you will find that this is compiler wierdness. the 10 (0x0A) is being interpreted as a carriage return. This problem is common (from what I can tell) in Linux, MS PERL, and BASIC. You must find some way of making the compiler stop trying to be smart about it. Try sending it raw withou...

Right. 254 equals 0xfe equals 0xFE equals feh equals FEh equals FEh equals FEH equals 11111110 The command prefix is a one byte command and it's value is 254 (AKA FE hex or 11111110 in binary (not that hex and decimal are not binary in this sense but...)) Hex is a short form way of describing binary...
