Thought I should chime in here. You're asking a for a tall order. Power/Voltage/Current measurement at 120VAC is NOT cheap. Looking across www.digikey.com, you could get something like: http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Criteria?Ref=128135&Site=US&Cat=32375306 For $84 usd, (t...

I saw what you said: If I were to cut my existing floppy cable, connect longer wires and tape it together would this be ok? and cringed. In electronics, tape should only be used to cover live ends, not for holding them together. I have to agree with Miles and strongly reccommend that you solder them...

If you have a good shield that is hevily grounded with two good conductors, you will reduce your EMI problems. Just don't skimp on the quality of the cable. One option would be to use good coaxial cable. Each has only two conductors, so use two cables. Ground each of the shields and deliver +5 and d...

We've tested cables upto 1m (3ft) in length, but we have heard of people having 1-wire work with much longer cables. It depends on too many factors including: - How long each cable is - You might be able to get away with a single probe at 20ft but two probes at 20ft might not work - The environment ...

As long as the DSP's serial port follows the RS232 specification, it should be ok. I would connect the LCD to a PC and test it first. Most units don't require any initialization. After that, about the only two things it could be are: - Reversed RX/TX lines. Make sure the TX from the DSP goes to the ...

You could, but you might run into problems. Noise from fans/cold cathods can drive the display nuts (random resets/lockups). The power supply is really good at absorbing noise, so connecting the 5V up will help. Try it out, but if you run into problems, you'll need the 5V too.

I think that is the only post doing it. We had a minor melt down about a week ago when the server ran out of space, and that thread has been doing it ever since. In fact I think it is way past the roll over point, and it just keeps adding to page 2.

That's right. The problem is that we've had noise issues when only the RPM pin is connected. The resistance between the RPM pin and ground becomes too much. So connecting a direct ground will help that.

The MX series doesn't care if the PWM signal it's delivering is used. So just the RPM should be fine. If you have problems, get a ground from the fan to the display too. If you have to do that, I would reccommend that you use the ground from the low power GPOs (bottom right pin of the 2x5 header).

The other catch with using PWM is that even at 0%, there is still some "leakage" current. This is not normally enough to turn a fan, but it is enough to light up the LEDS. From what we have seen the led fans always have their LEDs on, even when the GPO is "off". But otherwise you...

From the manual: Read Firmware Version Number Hex: FE 36 Decimal: 254 54 ASCII: 254 '6' This will return a single value. If you look at in hexadcimal it will give you the version number. For example, if you get back 0x21 that means it is version 2.1. The PCB version is printed right on the PC. In th...

Just split the data pin in a Y connector just like you split the +5 and GND. We've only tested the MX2 with 4 probes with 1m (3ft) cables. Disclaimer: We have heard of people using more/longer cables but we haven't tested it. It should work, but we can't provide any gaurantee that it will work.

MX series 1-wire tutorial

Well I've been promising this to several people for a while now, so here it is, the ultimate 1-wire tutorial. Sit back and relax, because this isn't going to be short. Disclaimer: This tutorial was cobbled together from old notes late at night. It will have spelling mistakes and parts that might not...
