--- Edited as we posted at the same time --- Excellent. 8) Glad to hear that everything is up and running. Sorry if I was short on the fourms before. I was just very busy at the time, but I still wanted to at least take the time to reply. BTW post some pictures of the final result in the gallery and...

I can understand your frustration. To my knowledge that was the only known bug in the PC that I could find for the revision 1.2, although it has been a long time since we have discontinued that product.

Wow, it's been a while since I've seen one of those :o I hate to admit it, but I think the PC version had a bug that didn't save the baud rate  If I'm right, I think you have only two options, to run at 19,200 (the easier) or to change the baud rate to 9600 while talking 19200 and then drop to...

Just to add one more thing to this conversation, while all the pleds look same to the eye, every time you photograph it, it seems to be a different colour. It depends on the white balance of the camera, the lighting, and so many other factors. Overall I would rate is as a very hard display to get a ...

Sorry for the confusion. "cat" is a command line tool that takes a file and dumps it to the screen. Also how do i set functions to the keys? The short answer is that you don't. Not easily anyway. The LCD will do everything over a serial port device in the /dev directory. Linux doesn't give...

Keypresses are sent to the same serial port that you have the display on. There is no keypad driver. If it is all setup correctly, then you could even "cat" the serial port to watch what keys are being pressed.

The set startup screen expects a FULL screen. A partial screen won't do. So you are going to need to send 40 characters after the initial 254/64 command. Give that a shot and let us know if that works.

I'll start by clarifying a few points that I've seen so far: 1) Hyperterminal CAN NOT send commands. It has no way of sending 0xFE which is the command prefix. If someone can correct me, PLEASE DO! 2) The allowable error in RS232 is 3%, so at 9600, you could vary from 9312 to 9888, so the value of 9...

To expand on Tom's reply: unless you really know what you are doing or have an extreme ammount of patience, I wouldn't recommend it. The timing between control signaling and data signaling has to be maintained otherwise the display won't respond at all. At the very least, put the display into 4 bit ...

Last I saw, the FTDI driver was still flagged as experimental. That is to say that they are still buggy. If you want to contact the maintainers, here are the email addresses attached to the top of the source code in my 2.6.11 kernel: * Copyright (C) 1999 - 2001 * Greg Kroah-Hartman (greg@kroah.com) ...

That is what I've been finding too. I've tested at least 40-50 different fans with the displays and the results are generally good, but some fans can be really bad. The only advice to anyone who has a problem with a fan that is creating a lot of noise, no matter what PWM frequency you use: Try a dif...

Hi boarderman: Sorry about the long delay. I've been away for a bit. Sounds like a nightmare of an input situation. You've got inputs crossing the entire gambit. I'll tackle them one a time and propose a few alternatives. First we'll start with the easy ones. Output. If you take a look at the DS2408...

To attach or not to attach

LCD Forums now has the ability to attach files to posts and private messages. You should all notice the nice new area below the posts to attach files. The limit is 256KB at the moment. If that becomes a problem let one of the admins know (either myself or Henry) and we'll see what we can do about ra...

Hi boaderman Just thought I should jump in this conversation. First of all, do you mind me asking what you are doing with 120 inputs? I'm very curious. Now onto the good stuff. The keypads on USB units are arranged into a 4x6 matrix, and the 4 rows are scanned for changes. Only when the status of a ...
