Are you using an internal usb or external? I used internal usb and mixed the data wire around and didnt plug it into the right pin. It didn't fry anything just no data.

I beleive I shorted out the RPM sensor pin and the 5/12v pin on the third advanced GPO (aka fan plug). the HP jumper was set for 12v not 5v with the floppy cable power pluged in.

OK I now understand what you mean by jumper 1. NO there is nothing installed over jumper 1. It just has two pads not touching, and there is no SMD soldered between them. I had a bad old fan connected to the third fan plug down the back of the board. The last one above the aux power plug. It shorted out and now the display will not start up at all.
