Burnouts?

Steady of repeating of a static message displaying, longer then 5 hours in a day may cause a phosphor burnout problem. This from the manual. How likely is this problem? If (for example) I use my display as a clock, will it cause problems? The first digit of the hours is there for about 10 hours at ...

I don't think you can have horizontal and vertical graphs at the same time.

I was imagining using one suitable for external mounting, but just shoving it in the case somewhere. They're powered by the USB bus, so power isn't a problem...

Try something like this - that's a normal USB to serial cable. Then one of these to let you plug it into the motherboard.

I think any normal serial-to-USB adapter should work. Just butcher the cable a bit and connect the wires to the pins of the USB header.

You did hear that right... but don't worry - I'm not talking about my main computers here! :) I have two Mac laptops, a G3 and a G4. But I don't want to connect the display up to a laptop, because I don't want to leave them on all the time. So I dug out the oldest computer I had lying around... it's...

I don't think Matrix Orbital do any black background, green text graphic LCDs. I suppose you could always get a GLC24064 and manually invert it by replacing the polarising sheet... However, I advise you to go for a VFD. They're green text on black, and look great (I have one). Matrix Orbital only do...

So I got my new VFD!

Today I was finally able to play with my new VFD (VK-204-25). So far, I've not done anything particularly adventurous with it. Most of my time was spent locating a suitable power supply and building an adaptor with the correct cable at the end. There was a heart-stopping moment when I first powered ...

My VFD and blue filter will (hopefully!) be here in a few days. I'll be able to tell you my experiences then. However, green-y blue is what I expected from looking at the pics on the site. It seems Matrix Orbital's filters are far more subtle than some of the other makes out there. (IMO that's a goo...

Well, I put my money where my mouth is - a luvly 20x4 VFD display is on its way across the atlantic! (Or will be soon I hope!)

Got a blue filter to go with it. I already have a power cable (which I'll modify) and a serial cable. So I think I'm all set :)

Thanks for the link. :)

Alas, they don't sell the one I want (a VFD with multiple GPOs), otherwise I probably would buy from them. :(

Good stuff :) That's quicker than most companies based here! I can tell why everyone's been recommending you, and the product hasn't even come yet! Seriously, guys, your sales support has already been great, and I haven't bought anything yet! I'm starting to feel a bit better about spending a huge w...

Shipping: here (UK) by Christmas?

As the topic, really. If I order on Monday, will it get here by Christmas to the United Kingdom?

Thanks,

Sounds sensible - I think that's what I'll do :) I have one final question (sorry to keep bothering you with them!): If I buy a VK-204-25 with the V option, it says it'll cost $125.50. I don't suppose you (or anyone) know how much it'd cost shipped to Britain, with import tax? And is there definitel...

it's not ment for the modding crowed... That's ok, I'm not one of the modding crowd :) Another question: Apart from powering it from a computer, what other ways do you suggest getting power to the display? I'm assuming the standard cheapo AC adapters you can get would not be suitable, because of vo...

Help me choose a display

OK, I seem to be in a minority here in that I don't want my display for case modding. So the MX series is out. Basically I want it to play about with for a few electronics projects, and to try some computer control circuits. So it's for trying things out, not for a finished project. Also, bear in mi...
