Recommend Me A LCD [Ubuntu]

Post by lilrichieh »

Hey Everyone,

I have just finished setting up my network server which is running Ubuntu 8.10 desktop edition and i am looking at getting a LCD to sit on my desk to report things like fan speed, cpu temp, hard disk space.

Can someone point me to a LCD that is compatible with Linux and also where and how i go about installing it?

Many Thanks
Richard Howell

Any of our character(lcd/vfd) usb displays should work right out of the box (given you have a recent linux kernel) on linux. lcdproc and lcd4linux seem to be the more popular applications on linux.

The graphic displays should work without any issues as well but I'm not aware of any linux software that makes good use of the extra options of a graphic display offers making it a waste of your money.

Installing it should be as easy as taking it out of the box and plugging it in. We have a linux appnote available here with instructions on how to get going on older kernels and some sample code if you want to have a go at programming one your self.
