What pins on a 9-pin d sub cable do i need to connect to the display If I was going to solder it or make my own crimp housing?

Basically can I cut the end off on cable and only 4 connections? So far I understand the +, -, TX, RX, is the red connector and I should be able to use a standard serial cable to connect as I thought it contains a + and - when you connect it to the back of your pc.

It would make it easy if someone could just say pin 3 connects to TX etc.

I re read an earlier thread GLK12232-25-SM RS232 Convert

I see that 2, 3, 5 pins on the computer/cable are RX, TX, and signal ground

I think I am confusing signal ground with the actual displaypower supply ground?

So now I am thinking I need to hook up the un modified floppy connector to power the display and then I only need the 3 connections from the serial cable for communication.

Yes, you are right; you need to power the module using the unmodified floppy connector and communicate using your own made-up cable with connections to pins 2, 3 and 5 of PC comport.

The signal and module power ground are the same.

Is the 12V power from the floppy connector necessary?
I was hoping to connect a GLK12232-25 to a laptop and get Vcc from USB, but if the 12V is necessary I'm not sure what to do.

Is there an equivalent USB substitute for the GLK12232-25?
And why is shipping to the US so dang high? 25 bucks for a data cable!

Thanks for your post.

The reason for recommending the use of the standard floppy power cable is because ghost2501 does not supply the power to the same cable with the RX and TX lines, he could if he wanted to.

If you have the regular (non -V option) of the GLK12232-25-SM, then you do not need 12V. You can make up your cable that has power (+5V), RX, TX and ground and not use the standard floppy power at all.

Unfortunately, there isn't.

Hi Flip,

The reason why is costs $25 to ship to the US even for just a cable is because UPS and FedEx need to charge custom fees and brokerage fees to import the products into the US.

We do not set these fees, the fees are set by UPS and FedEx.

Perhaps you can order from a distributor in the US so that you can save on shipping.
