Thanks for the offer, I'll take youup on that :grin:

So you're running a Win32 system, I was going to go with Linux ( for the record, I know nothing, zip, 0 about Linux, so this WILL be interesting), get a Smart Media card for the actual OS and then a removable 40gig +/- hard drive, so I can update it at any time.

And WOW, 2 pager :smile:

Yo, Linux is far less painful to use than in the olden days. I just have to warn you that learning to use any type of *nix well will make you want to spit on Windoze every time you see it.

I'm running win98, edit win.ini to set shell=X:program fileswinampwinamp.exe

and i forget what the command line to turn off scan disk is.

AutoScan=Number
Default: 1
Purpose: Defines whether or not ScanDisk is run after a bad shutdown. A setting of 0 does not run ScanDisk; 1 prompts before running ScanDisk; 2 does not prompt before running ScanDisk but prompts you before fixing errors if any errors are found.

And setting the shell to winamp works??? intereting. What does it do? how does it work... give us some details.

setting winamp for the shell, loads only the drivers and winamp. no explorer.exe and all that jazz. Boots it up as active screen. Great for ppl with no monitor or lcd. Also it helps on boot time.

as for linux,

I've used it a little only to know that it is a pain in the butt to remove off my hard drive after it crashed.

cool!
so, with some batch magic one can easily make a faster OS, but with only 1 program...
