Still having lock up problems on New Machine

Post by ContraptionMaker »

Hi Ray, yes it's me again, I will try to remain civil. Here is the problems I am having.
New machine. Intel dual core, 6gigs RAM, Vista 64-bit.
First off I have to run the config utility every time I start the computer to enable the IR. Shouldn't that stay enabled?
Still the software runs for about 20 min. and then just stops and the screen freezes. I unplug the LCD, replug, restart LCD studio and it won't even load a playlist. Just shows the splash screen. I found the 64-bit drivers in the forums, tried to load them, said successful, and you must restart computer. I restart and the same thing all over again, It loads the driver again and says to restart the computer.
Ray you know I have had this screen for several years now and it has never worked right. I love this thing when it works but I shouldn't have to restart it several times a day just to use it. I would really love to have this working the way it should otherwise it is just a paper weight.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well you're in luck! We're in maintenaince mode for the GX as we speak!

The IR checkbox was a software bug, no matter how the GX was configured it would always tell you IR was off even if it was on! This one is fixed already and will be in the upcoming update!

We've got updated win7 drivers that should elimite the hunting for drivers on the forums. We'll also adress the not coming out of standby issues some peope have and that pesky IR led that sometimes just doesn't want to turn off. However this is all in several states of development so we haven't got a beta package for you just jet.

Now the issues you are having, I haven't seen that happen here at the office so its kinda hard to trouble shoot it (however I'm not saying you are crazy other people have reported the issue) since you seem to have the issue quite often can you assist me in tracking down the source of it?

If you don't start lcdstudio and toss lcdinfo out of the auto startup the display should come up with the 'Display waiting for applications' jumping to a different location every couple of seconds. If you keep it in that mode will it go on longer then 20 minutes? (not sure how often it locks up on you).

After you are convinced thats not locking up, run lcdinfo and have just that running (we have a system running here with just lcdinfo for several years without a single lockup) and see if it locks up.

If both of those are fine, run lcdstudio but just keep it in editor mode, put a clock on there or something and keep that running and see if it locks up.

We'll get to the bottom of this get these GX issues hammered out for you!

Runs Ok by itself

Post by ContraptionMaker »

First off let me say thank you for the quick reply. I read your post just before I left for work. Before I left I preformed the fist part of your suggestion, stop LCD Studio, remove lcdinfo.exe from the start up and let the GX run on it's own. Seven hours later the "ready for application" still jumping around. I have started lcdinfo and the screens are changing the way they are supposed to. Will let it run that way overnight. Just a note here, I have let it run that way before and it would never lock up. The only time I have a problem is with LCD Studio, but we will see what happens tonight.
I went back to the 32-bit drivers because of the constant reloading of the 64-bit drivers. Any idea why they are doing that (see first post)?
By the way, the IR will not work after restart unless I run config utility.

Runs Ok with lcdinfo.exe

Post by ContraptionMaker »

Ok I started lcdinfo and the the screens are changing. There are only two though, the clock and CPUload. Between them is only a blank screen, Don't know if that makes a difference but that is what I get. Will try just running a clock with LCDstudio.

Here are the results, Not good

Post by ContraptionMaker »

OK, ran just fine with single screen and LCD Studio in edit mode (minimized to task bar) up until now. I even changed screens half way through.
First problem. Ir not working until I run Lcd Defaults Configuration Utility, then the IR quit working after some time, Sorry I don't know how long it worked but I left LCD studio running in edit mode to see if screen would lock up, it did not.
Then I rebooted....
Second problem, now all I get on the screen is the splash screen. The screen is recognized in Lcd Defaults Configuration Utility but the splash screen does not change. If I try to load something in LCD Studio it fails to show up on the screen. I have started lcdinfo.exe but still only get the splash screen. I have tried plugging in the screen several times but always the same thing.
Another interesting note, I use headphones since I am in the same room as our TV, and without the screen plugged in they are silent. If I plug in the screen I get a very high pitch in the headphones???? Really strange.
Got any suggestions?

Wow attaching it in a file would have probably have looked nicer, anyhow, those are the lcdstudio drivers for parralel port displays, you don't need to install them when you have a GX. Just remove the checkbox during the setup and you should be all good.

Also (sorry for responding a bit late to your previous post) am i understanding correctly that running lcdstudio in edit mode did not lock up and it only locks up in playlist mode?

Will you ever be out of maintainence mode? This paper weight I don't need!
