Howto use LCD of a HP TouchSmart IQ820

Hi everyone!
I have a HP TouchSmart IQ820 that seems to be broken (I guess the motherboard) and I want to use the nice big LCD as an external monitor. Has someone experience here or advices for controller boards that fit? There is a HDMI-In, but I read that it's only working while the PC is also running. However that would be the coolest solution.
