LCDStudio Source

Post by rooster212 »

I have a GX Typhoon and have been trying to get it working on a 64 bit system. I know you have been having problems with it, as have I. I really like the display but the constant crashing randomly is annoying me. I was wondering if you could provide the C# source code for LCD studio - it might be better in the public domain and I think it could become a really good project to pick up (I am a software developer myself).

Please let this program live on! I fear that in it's current unmaintained state it will cease to become useful, especially with the release of Windows 10 around the corner - and GX displays are unique as far as I can find.

I feel your pain, I have 3 units and constant crashing and still no x64 support! Come on, even cell phones have moved to 64 but not Gx typhoon still remains ..
I am actually about to give up and sell units as there has been no updates for a long while

Hi everybody.

It's a real long time not getting an update here, but I also wish the LCDStudio program to live longer. Are there some real chances to release the source code?

I'm sorry to report there are currently no plans for a source release.

After almost quite 6 years (more than 6 if taking into account the hardware phasing-out), probably the correct answer is "there will be NO plans EVER to release the source".

This probably also means that nobody can't ever write its own software publicly (I can't surely ever do it because I'm not a developer) due to eventual "copyright infringement".

That's too bad, at least for me, because (from my simple point of view) it seems much more a company's intent to prevent an optimal use - I could also say "perfect use" - of this still wonderful piece of hardware (maybe the most valuable ever built) probably for marketing reasons (i.e. inviting people to "buy new stuff"); unfortunalely, I'm not rich enough to change displays on every new H/W release! :-)

I'm saying this because I'm still using LcdStudio and, despite its stability, still has defects that they'll never be corrected, e.g the internal framerate granularity of the time-date plugin, fixed to 0.300 seconds granularity when using fractions (format: "hh:mm:ss.ff(f)") which I consider bad compared to the maximum available stable framerate (25 | 30fps, which means a granularity of 0.040 | 0,033(333...) seconds, respectively).
