EGLK19264A-7T Setting start up brightness keypad

Post by PaulBMO »

Hi,

How do I set the default start up brightness of the keypad of the EGLK19264-7T-USB-WB and TCI displays?
The backlight brightness is easily set with command 152 (set and save brightness).
But setting a similar default for the keypad brightness is not possible, or am I missing something?

I hope you can help me.
With kind regards,
Paul Joosten

Hi Paul,

No worries, most display settings can be saved even though they don't have an explicit command using the Set Remember feature.

To save the keypad backlight setting, set Remember On, change the keypad backlight value, and then set Remember Off.

Hi Troy,

Thanks for your reply.

The solution works unfortunately only for the EGLK19264A-7T-USB-WB display.
For the EGLK19264A-7T-USB-TCI it does not seem to have any effect.
Could you help with this?

Hi Paul,

I can definitely look into that. Are you able to read the firmware revision of both models?

Thank you,
Troy

Thank you Paul,

It appears both units are running the same code then. Let's check both parts of the command sequence on the -TCI unit.

Using the -TCI, could you please confirm that you are able to at least set the backlight brightness?

Next, could you please check that the Remember command is working by using another command, like Set Backlight Off, in place of the keypad backlight command.

Thanks again,
Troy

Hi Troy,

Thanks for the response.

Tested a few things:
- the keypad brightness can be changed
- the remember function works for other setting (IE the LEDs are now turn off at start up, Display brightness setting is remembered)
- Plugged in another TCI display, same trouble, so it's not just the one that's not responding to this specific command

I hope i gave you enough information to continue your search for a solution.

Hi Paul,

Not a problem, I appreciate the additional information you have provided. I understand you are able to change the brightness so the hardware is fine, and it looks like the Remember feature is working as well.

If you have time to do one more test, I would suggest setting Remember on, turning off everything that emits light (keypad, backlight, LEDs), setting Remember off, and restarting.

We've tried your test here, but unfortunately, have not been able to replicate to this point. I'm going to provide an undocumented command that you can use to read the exact firmware revision of the unit you have, so we can test with exactly the same thing here.

If you could, please issue the following command bytes to your unit /254//212//77//79//117//110/. The display should respond with four bytes indicating major and minor firmware revisions, as well as a 2 byte CRC which will allow us to test with exactly the same firmware.

Thanks,
Troy

HI Troy,

The setting for the LEDs and Display brightness are remembered, only the keypad brightness won't listen to my command....

The command you asked me to run responds with:
85-01-74-F3
or in bytes:
133 1 116 243

Hi Troy,

Changed the firmware on my TCI display to version 85-00-0F-8F (this version is running on my WB display).
Unfortunately no change, still not remembering the keypad brightness.

Hi Paul,

I appreciate you turning everything off on the unit, I wanted to discount the possibility of light bleed causing the keypad backlight to appear on. We'll take the firmware versions you have supplied and continue testing here. I'll let you know what we find.

Thanks again,

Hi Paul,

I appreciate all of your help in this matter, it looks like we have a bug in the keypad backlight code. A fix will be included in the next firmware release.

First, please refrain from remembering the backlight off setting, until the next firmware revision is released.

Next, please upload the attached default .ebin settings file. Once this has been uploaded you'll be able to save the backlight brightness setting using the remember sequence. Be sure to set the backlight brightness setting to 0 rather than using command 155 for now.

Should you have any further trouble, please let us know.

Thanks again,
Troy

Hi Paul,

No worries, I'm glad the work around was successful.

A release date for the next firmware version has not been set at this time, but I expect you'll see an update in the firmware upgrader within the first quarter of the year.

Cheers,
Troy

Hi Troy,

It seems that the problem it not quite solved. In other words its back.
After updating the LCD with the .ebin file you provided the problem was gone.

I configured the display to my needs (because all this was wiped when I uploaded the new file-system):
= uploaded my 4 fonts.
= uploaded my company logo.
= wrote the word "Colour" in the customer data.

Some how the new firmware got the bug back.
How is this possible?
Please help.
I've got several displays with this problem so a solution is urgent.
With kind regards,
