Viewing angle dependent flicker

Hi Matrix Orbital,

I noticed on my newly received GLK19264 USB display that, when looking at it standing left from the device, there is quite strong flickering. This flickering disappears if the viewer moves to the right. Is this normal?

Hi Niston,

If the backlight is flickering, it could be the result of insufficient power. You might try a powered USB hub or even an external supply connected to the alternate power header.

Cheers,
Troy

Verified on a 5 amps power supply. It's definitely not a power issue :)

The flickering is strongest after cold start. As time passes, it weakens. What strikes me is the viewing angle dependency.

| = module front

<) viewing from left
----> | noticeable flicker

----> | no flicker
<) vieweing from right

<)--> | no flicker
viewing from center

I don't know, seems weird to me.

Hi Niston,

Some of the older GLK19264 units had only a single backlight, but all new units have a backlight on both the left and right sides. I've also confirmed that the horizontal viewing angle is symmetrical (+/-30 degrees).

Given that info, 5 amps, and 5 volts I don't think there is a major issue, but if you'd like to send a video to me at tclark@matrixorbital.ca I'd be happy to take a look.

Cheers,
Troy

I just tried making a video, it's no use. My phone cam cannot capture the flickering.

Oh well, it's not a showstopper. I've just been wondering if it is normal.
