Help with MX2 USB and running a fan off it

Post by Godzilla_uk »

Hi,
Just wondering if someone could help me out with this. Ive ha the MX2 USb for a while now and all its been used for is LCDC and too look nice :P
Recently ive been thinking about the possibility of it running a couple of 80mm fans and having them switch on when MBM (or some other temp program) reaches a certain temperature... I had a look around the forum and found some info on the unit.
This is what i am led to believe...

I understand that i have to plug a floppy drive connector into the unit for the extra power.. (unit is currently running of internal USB connection.)
If i want to power 12v stuff i have to move the jumper to the 12v setting.

I have attempted to do this and have had no luck in power getting to the fan.
The fan runs on the 6v setting, but the rpms are VERY low and when the unit initialises the power draw kills the fan so that isnt an option..

I beleive the unit to be a LK202-24-USB_02 version 1.4 printed on PCB. I have noticed that on inspection of the PCB the area next to the jumper for 12v there is a soldering point with nothing bridging it...

Any ideas/suggestions (even a new unit...) would be great so i can try this little project

Update:

My bad needed to setup LCDC to fire the fan up...
Working great... now if i could get some fan extensions made up...

Anyhoo delete this if appropriate
Cheers
