Linux Support for various Displays. Advice Please

Post by ikonia »

Hi,

I am looking at purchasing one of the following products to go in a modded system I'm building.

Matrix Orbital MX222
Matrix Orbital MX422
Matrix Orbital MX522

First I'd like to try to understand the difference between these models, apart from the size I can't see any difference.

Now the real question is, how do these things work with linux ?

Because they are USB, I'm guessing to see the device you just need to build USB support into the kernel, but from there on how do you configure it ?

eg: is there software available to linux to configure and manage it. I've only seen some "testing" software.

How do you get it to interface with apps, such as XMMS, or Xine, or even a bash shell ?

How does the environment monitoring stuff work, does that depend on motherboard sensors ? how to you configure them to be used with the display.

FYI - I'm thinking of buying the product from http://www.kustompcs.co.uk in case there are differnces in UK/USA model number.

Many thanks,

Matt.
