Microchip flash parts are pretty cost/development effective. Atmel too (Happy Henry?)

BASIC stamps ( http://www.hvwtech.com ) are nice and easy.

I especially recommend talking to Mark at HVW Tech as he makes such things for use in karts.

Well, Not really. I don't recognise the motherboard, but that's no reason to mock it. I have seen this kind of problem about 10 times in the last several years and it has always been Laptops. I am fairly sure it is the serial port hardware, but I don't know the details. Do you have any other way to ...

rst is /reset (reset for the processor anyway)- active low.

cnt is the contrast control voltage. The actual voltage that is being fed into the LCD drive circuit.

... or that is what they were before other engineers messed with the board layout without permission...

Henry, Do you have a meter? Can you measure two points for continuity? The bezel certainly has the potential to be connected, given that it is in contact with 6 bare gold plated areas, but probably not all are due to paint or oxide on the bexel. 4PI, you have not told me that you have tried my first...

I did not say that, and no they are not. Read what I said, or have someone translate it for you. If - after you are completely sure that you have understood what I wrote - you still have questions, I will be happy to answer them.

Yes, if it has just 2 pins, then it is probably a D-Pak type. This type is intended to be soldered to the heat sink, so you will have to think about that. You need a heat sink. The "tab" is actually the third pin. It is the collector. Aniso On 2002-02-21 18:48, mhains wrote: Grabbed a 2N30...

They should be grounded, but - THIS IS IMPORTANT - doing so is not automatically the "right thing". The mounting holes (or most of them, anyway), are connected to the ground plane and the ground plane is connected to the metal bezel and also connected to the electrical ground. If you are e...

Polarsmurf, Not sure what you are talking about. Now that You mention it, maybe the "Voice of God" was a bit much 'cause I seem to remember using aroung 470 ohms for most of my 5 volt LED powering in the past. Can I just retract the whole thing and say "Use a meter"? Still, I cou...

Man, I hate it when that happens. On my machine, using Opera 6, I can safely "Back" after that and the message is still there, but I am still paranoid and almost always copy the text before I hit post on any board I am on. BTW, Opera 6 rocks, though it's hard to decide which is worse - Mic...

I don't stop by here as often as I should, but please take this as the "VOICE OF GOD" (rumble) (rumble) LEDs are neither "5 volt" or "12 volt". The only specification a LED has (in terms of requirement) is current. As a characteristic, LEDs also exhibit a "...
