interesting keypads

I ran into these and thought they would make interesting keypads for people with MO LCDs who were wanting to add keypads with minimal effort. 2x8: http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=100&item=KP-24&type=store 4x4: http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?cat...

I'd recommend getting a WOL cable (about a buck at a PC shop) and removing the connector. It's an IDC (insulation displacement connector), so with a bit of fiddling, you can mate it to your own wire. I might suggest using category 5 wire since it's readily available in arbitrary lengths.

I'm not worried about it, but perhaps an ammeter would build your confidence somewhat. 300 mA sounds pretty typical to me.

Yep, the GPOs are rated to 750 mA, so you have a comfortable margin of safety there with your plan. I believe that the FET they use will tolerate over an Amp, but the "official" rating is 750 mA.

you should always pick your software first, then pick the hardware that runs it best. Your IR stunt is not possible with any of the parallel software I'm aware of (and make sure you're clear--it's the software that does it, not the display), but LCDC does it with pretty minimal difficulty. And to ru...

The problem with catalog ordering or getting them from anywhere, is you have to cripm them to the wire yourself, that's a big drag.

There's connectors for headers, pins sold separately, so watch out.

MX212, XP pro SP1. For me the first driver release (on CD) worked fine. Ditto for W2K pro SP3. I'v updated to the new drives, but I boot in the normal amount of time for my Athlon 800 (go ahead, snicker :nono: ).

Alas, nothing of any value is stocked at radio s*ack, except for a few things at absurdly inflated prices, which does not include the connectors we're after. I'd suggest making friends with someone that services PCs and has access to large volumes of discarded cases. Even AT cases will have a handfu...

There are several PWM ICs that could do the job for you. MIC502 is one, and I know there are several others. I'm not sure how you'd go aobut interfacing though.

TTL -> transistor-transistor logic, usually meant to indicate +5V corresponds to ON. As opposed to RS-232 or some other signaling scheme where other voltages mean ON or OFF. QT113H-D was the ones I used. They are active high, so I could close a 4066 directly from the output, no inverter required. Mo...

You want the 4066 quad bilateral switch, or one of it's relatives. when it gets a logic HIGH, it closes a switch (actually turns on a couple FETs), so it's ideal for interfacing logic level signals to the keypad headers. Cheap too, I think I paid $0.25 for mine. *Tip of the hat to Stig for coming up...
